All that jazz? It's just entertainment

YORKSHIRE-BORN jazz sensation Clare Teal takes in Horsham's Capitol on a tour of select dates to celebrate the release of her new album Get Happy.

She's at the venue on Friday, September 19 at 8pm and great music and plenty of laughter are guaranteed, she says, adding that jazz really is for everyone.

"It's not rocket science," says the 35-year-old. "It's just entertainment. I don't want anybody to think 'Well, I don't really understand it'. I don't pretend to wrap it up as anything other than what it is.

"I hope that every person in the audience leaves with a big grin on their face and the feeling that they have been entertained, that they have got to know me and are taking something away with them."

Part of the problem is that jazz, as Teal says, has taken 'such a bashing' over the years.

"When I said to my parents that I wanted to be a jazz singer, they had visions of Billie Holiday and needles sticking out of my arms.

"Jazz is such a tiny word to cover such a huge sound."
