Vets raise £500 with Brighton 5k fun run

A team from Farthings Vets in Horsham has raised over £500 for Medical Detection Dogs by completing the 5km Brighton Colour Run, which took place on 17 September.

Having started the run in pristine white, the team, consisting of Katherine Gist and Shona Lawson (Veterinary Surgeons) and Alice Bates, Caron Kirkwood, Crystal Woodrow, Lily Furber, Arabella Woodhouse and India Everitt (Veterinary Nurses) completed the event weary and daubed in a rainbow of colours.

Medical Detection Dogs is a charity which trains dogs to detect the odour of human disease.

Their highly trained dogs work with children and adults with complex life-threatening illnesses throughout the UK.

Cancer Detection Dogs are working on prostate, renal and bladder and breast cancer studies which the charity believes have the potential to save thousands of lives through the early detection of cancer and other diseases.

Commenting on the run, Katherine Gist said: “We decided to do the run because we thought it would be a great team bonding experience and a chance to raise money for a very important charity.

“The Colour Run seemed like a good balance between challenging ourselves and having fun at the same time.

“The route took us all along the stunning Brighton seafront, complete with a bracing sea breeze(!) and plenty of opportunities to get covered in multi-coloured paint powder.

“We were very pleased with our race time and still had enough energy to enjoy the colourful after party at the finish line.

“Overall it was a great experience and we’re delighted to have raised such a lot for the fantastic dogs trained by Medical Detection Dogs.

“We’re already planning our 2017 challenge!”
