GALLERY: Bury Church Fête '˜great success'

Held in an idyllic setting at Dorset House School, set at the foot of the South Downs and overlooking the River Arun, the fête is one of the most popular in the county.

This year, there was a mix of old favourites and new attractions to keep adults and children entertained.

Organisers particularly wanted to include more child-friendly events and opportunities for adults to grab a bargain.

Another addition to the fête was a full Day in the Life demonstration by Canine Partners, showcasing how their assistance dogs work to transform the lives of people living with disabilities.

Committee members said they were thrilled the charity was able to join the fête as its dogs ‘are simply amazing in action’.

Arun Churches, which includes the parishes of Bury, Houghton, Coldwaltham and Hardham, is currently without a vicar, so Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert stood in to announce the raffle winners.

The top prize was £300 and runners-up received cash and prizes including lunch at Amberley Castle and supper at the Squire and Horse pub.

The fête is a key fundraiser for the four churches, St John the Evangelist in Bury, St Giles’ in Coldwaltham, St Botolph’s in Hardham and St Nicholas’ in Houghton, in order to ensure their futures.

Organisers posted on Facebook: “A big thank you to all who helped make today a great success, from the people who helped set up, stall holders, our wonderful acts in the amphitheatre, to all who worked tirelessly to clear up, our visitors who attended and ‘him up there’ who made the weather kind.”
