The Henfield Theatre Company is promising a lavish production of The Taming of the Shrew in the gardens of Red Oaks Care Home in Henfield.
Spokesman Martin Love said: “This play is a lively and sometimes controversial comedy, which is easy to understand and very entertaining. And the Henfield version is going to have an unusual twist.
“The production, directed by Angela Reid, will use a slightly abridged version of Shakespeare’s original text and the traditional 17th century setting but with the addition of musical interludes taken from the past 60 years.
“Songs, performed by The Katherinettes, a Henfield Theatre Company all-female, singing group, will provide musical commentary and a connection with modern times.
“To complete the picture the audiences for this production are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy in that lovely setting, before the performances start.
“The gates will be opened from 6pm and the performances start at 7.30pm.
“Red Oaks will also be providing a Pimms bar.
“It is planned that the performances will go ahead in all but very heavy rain. Come prepared for wet or cool weather and we should be guaranteed a balmy evening!”
The production runs until Saturday, July 9, at 7.30pm at Red Oaks Care Home, The Hooks, Henfield.
Tickets, priced £10, are available from Henfield Furnishings, High Street, Henfield. Call 01273 490080.
