A musical flavour of the Mediterranean comes to St Mark’s Church, Horsham, on Saturday, March 18, at 7.30pm when the Horsham Music Circle presents the voice-and-lute duo Etrusca.
Spokeswoman Jill Elsworthy said: “Italian soprano Alessandra Testai comes from Tuscany and has her musical roots in the varied traditions of Italian song.
“Robin Jeffrey is a versatile performer on instruments of the lute and guitar families and is active in the performance of Middle Eastern classical and traditional music.
“They present Mediterraneo – An Inland Sea, a musical evening full of sunshine, sea spray and bright colours. Alessandra and Robin take us on a journey round the shores of the Mediterranean, visiting the various cultures which have contributed to the incomparable civilisation of the Inland Sea.
“The programme includes old Italian madrigals, songs of the Greek Islands, a sixteenth century Spanish ballad of the Moorish wars, Turkish dances of the Ottoman Empire, songs of the exiled Sephardi Jews and a wild South Italian tarantella.
“Alessandra’s unforgettable voice is accompanied by Robin on a fascinating collection of instruments, including the Renaissance lute and Baroque guitar, the Spanish guitar, the Greek laouto and Turkish oud, and a powerful little strummed guitar from Sicily.
“However damp the English weather turns out to be, you are guaranteed to feel the sunshine!”
Tickets can be obtained on the door or in advance from Horsham Museum (cash or cheques only), from the Music Circle on 01403 252602, or online at www.wegottickets.com/HorshamMusicCircle.
