Vital work for horses in Gambia

VITAL work carried out by The Gambia Horse & Donkey Trust has been highlighted by Billingshurst horse owner Judith Parkes, who first visited Sambel Kunda, where the charity has its base, five years ago.

The trust was started eight years ago by Heather Armstrong and Stella Marsden '“ two sisters who were brought up in The Gambia.

Judith, who has ridden for years and has horses at home, became involved because her daughter Claudia, and Heather Armstrong's daughter, Rachel were friends at school.

She said: "A few years ago they had to do a couple of weeks of work experience, so the girls, Heather and I went to The Gambia, where Heather and Stella had recently set up the trust. For many years Stella had been involved in rehabilitating champanzees and had a camp near Sambel Kunda, which is where we stayed."
