VIDEO: Gary Charman - We gave them two goals

Horsham manager Gary Charman blamed two more errors by his goalkeeper Mark Zawadski for costing them the game which they ended up losing 4-1 to champions elect Peacehaven.

He reckoned the scoreline was not a true reflection of the game which Horsham could have led after dominating the second half and then Junior Kaffo headed over the bar when put through straight after half-time.

Charman said: “We gave them two goals. We should have gone in at half-time in the lead, let alone 2-0 down. I thought we were excellent. In the first half we dominated them. They were good on the counter.

“Two errors cost us two goals and that made the difference.

“At the start of the second half we missed an opportunity to get back into the game.”

Charman also believed his side missed out on a penalty appeal during the second half when Ashley Robinson appeared to be brought down in the area at 4-0 down which could have given them a goal earlier.

He said: “I’ve spoken to the referee and he now thinks he was wrong but thought he was right at the time. I don’t know how many people were here but everyone who was thought it was a stonewall penalty. Even the guy who committed the foul has turned round and said it was a penalty. But when you are in the position we are in you don’t get them.

“The third goal their guy was probably five or six yards offside but that’s the way it goes.

“We are pleased with the performance but disappointed with the result.”

Charman also praised substitute Michael Death for scoring a late goal in fine fine style.

He said: “I’m pleased for him he’s been working hard for Simon Colbran at Crowborough on dual forms. I’m pleased for him it was a great finish.

“I’m just disappointed with the result. Anyone who was here could see it was never a 4-1 scoreline. If anything I thought for 60-70 minutes we were the better side.”
