Marlins began the final weekend in second place - a point behind title rivals Hucknall.

It proved to be enough as Hucknall succumbed to the pressure with a surprise defeat to Liverpool. At the end of the initial group stage, Marlins top the table with an impressive 6 wins from 7 matches. Striker, Dani Brazier also carried off the division’s “Hot Shot” title with 29 goals which was well clear of her nearest rival. Coach Tony Noble was understandably delighted with the team’s achievement, praising the commitment of the players and support of their families to travel the length of the country to compete. He also cited the improvement in the all-round strength of the squad as a key component in the team’s success this season. “The younger players have all contributed and improved with each game and we now have an ideal blend of youth and experience and a great team spirit.”

For the second half of the season, Marlins will now take part in the Championship 1 play off league, where they will be joined by the 4 other top teams from division 2 - plus Leeds, Sheffield and London Penguin who occupy the bottom 3 places in the first division after the first phase. The teams who occupy the first 3 places after this second phase will be promoted to Division 1 next season.

For now, Marlins are savouring their success before making the long trip to Lancaster in early December for the first round of Championship 1 matches
