Thunder are well placed in Pool 2 of the National Trophy after wins over Westminster (92-89) and Newham (99-66) at the weekend and they are also through to the third round of the National Cup.

Okoronkwo, who is co-captain with Dominic Baker, said: “We’re just looking for any form of silverware this season. At the moment, it’s the Trophy but as soon as we’re in a league game, we’re targeting that game.

“In my first year here, we got to the final of the play-offs. Ever since, we’ve not got quite so close again and that’s a chip on my shoulder. We’ve got to get that one step further and get some silverware.”

Okoronkwo has been pleased with how the season has gone so far and added: “It’s been good – we’ve got all our pieces here after we had a few niggles at the start of the season, injury-wise, although Joe Carter is still out with his wrist injury.

“Training has been hard, with a lot of new sets which the guys are now familiar with and now we’re looking to put it all together.”

Okoronkwo also praised the home fans after the victory over Westminster on Saturday and said: “It’s massive when you have a crowd like that. It was our biggest one of the year and we’ve had big crowds in the last few seasons as well. Hopefully, we gave them an entertaining game and they really help when you’re on the court at crunch times.”
