With straight hard running and quick ruck ball Heath were able to create width and space and were soon on the score board through Chris Anson, their no 12. Putting the bigger Shoreham forwards on the back foot Heath attacked the narrow channels to score through strong No 8 Tom Sheeran. Keeping the pressure and intensity up the attack went wide off a line out to be quickly brought back the other way and with quick hands and passing the try was taken by the Heath full back Liam Macaulay.

With the windy conditions it was always going to be the team who dealt the conditions the best that would have the greater advantage. The Heath back row were a constant threat with straight running and great support play. Shoreham failed to man the fringes of the breakdown properly, inviting scrum-half Christian Streater to slip through the gap before producing an exquisite left footed side step to score Heath’s fourth and bonus point score on the half time whistle. Freddie Longley, heath’s fly-half converted making the score 0-22 at half time.

Turning around after the break seemed to spur the Shoreham forwards on and the next few minutes resulted in a considerable test of the defensive qualities of the Heath team. However, with a combination of attacking lapses and great defensive skills Heath were able to surge out of their 22 and put Chris Anson away for another well worked try. The off loading within the tight five was tremendous and enabled Tom Sheeran to slip through a gap to score his second try. Both were converted by Chris Anson.

The Heath pack continued to dominate the breakdown and with constant quick ball and fast hands it was only a matter of time before the Shoreham defence was breached again, this time by the left wing, Will Rattoff. Chris Anson added the conversion. With the wind at Heath’s back, Longley kicked for field position and two well taken kicks enabled Heath to move 60 metres down the field. On the second kick the support runners tackled the full back and turned over the ball and put Tom Sheeran away for his second try of the match and Chris Anson duly converted. With the back row so dominant at the breakdown and the Shoreham forwards on the back foot it was only a matter of time before one of them would enjoy the benefits of theirs and the tight fives hard work and Alfie Bedford, playing at No 7, after coming on at half time, took the penultimate try, again converted by Chris Anson whose accuracy given the conditions was outstanding.

With the game in its final couple of minutes Heath chose to attack through the narrow channels and with support coming from deep, the Shoreham defence was overwhelmed and Sheeran finished off with his hat-trick try next to the posts. Chris Anson again added the conversion. Heath U13s showed their class in this match by running in nine tries with no reply from Shoreham. The Heath U13s squad is working hard to step up to junior rugby this year and recent results on the pitch demonstrates that all the hard work in training is really shaping the boys play and decision-making on the pitch.
