WORTHING Thunder Basketball Club are seeking sponsorship to bring a second overseas import into the club.
Thunder began the new season with a 91-86 defeat at Westminster Warriors in the National Trophy on Saturday.
They play their first home match when they entertain Kent Crusaders in the Trophy on Saturday (7.30pm), before a trip to local rivals Sussex Bears – who are coached by former Thunder head coach Gary Smith – in the National Cup on Sunday (3pm) at The Sir Robert Woodard Academy.
On bringing in another import player to add to Hank Rivers, Thunder coach Daniel Hildreth said: “We’re in no position to bring in a second American at this stage until we get sponsorship.
“We bring in import players to add what we don’t have already. It makes us more competitive as we’ll come up against players of that calibre in the league this year. However, it’s not essential to win and Kent showed that last year when they won the title.”
Looking ahead to the weekend games, Hildreth said: “We’ll look to take care of business on Saturday, before we play Sussex Bears.
“The game on Sunday will have a lot of interest in it and, hopefully, there will be a lot of people there to watch as it will showcase the quality of basketball in Sussex.”
