Kin Ryu Judo Club, based at K2 Crawley, recently sent a squad of 36 to the 2015 Sussex County Championships in Worthing. Having won the overall title for the previous 4 years, the Club was raring for a repeat performance.
Throughout the day, both juniors and seniors fought the best in Sussex for the title of Sussex Champion and they didn’t disappoint.
For some, this was their first outing to the County Championships, for others they had experienced this level of competition before.
The squad displayed some of their finest throwing, ground-holds, arm-locks and strangles, with many finishing with the coveted “Ippon” score - Judo’s equivalent of a Knockout in Boxing.
Between them, the squad came away with 10 Golds, 8 Silvers, 10 Bronzes and the overall title for the 5th successive year; with Corlia Robertson impressively winning her 6th consecutive County Title.
Additionally, Andrew Woods was presented with the Men’s Spirit of Judo award and Thea Griffey was presented with the Sussex Squad’s Most Improved Female Player award.
All medallists will make up part of the 2015 Sussex Squad and hope to be selected to represent Sussex at the upcoming Southern Area Inter-County Team Championships in Hampshire, where Sussex will compete against Kent, Surrey and Hampshire for the Area title.
The Kin Ryu squad were: Corlia Robertson, Thea Griffey, Ellie Williams, Jade Williams, Kiera Turnbull, Lily Kirby, Amelia Dunn, Katherine Burke, Ellie Fowler, Fallon Tibbs, Megan Rothwell, Grace Beckett, Ellie Worrall, Deni Shriden, William Burke, Zack Wake, Ertug Vanli, Adam Funnel, Joe Beckett, Ollie Gordon, James Hiley, Vinnie Brown, Ben Rolfe, Joe Hardstaff, Jackson Paine, Mark Rolfe, Josh Fowler, Aaron Stone, Luther Knibbs, Andrew Woods, Tom Bishop, Louis Kirkman, Josh Brownings, Oliver Fowler, and Louis Rothwell.
