Crawley Town Lifesaving Club proved themselves as good as the best when they took on and beat local professsionals at the Sussex Senior Championships at the Sovereign Centre, Eastbourne on Saturday.

The Crawley team comprising debutante Chloe Pratt, Lauren Hand, Dan Seagrove-Castle and Gary Lee won the John Walker Memorial Incident Shield.

The Championships which Crawley have won on 10 previous occasions was formed of the incident, three speed events and the traditional march past.

The four-man team won the overall bronze medal in the Gilbert Garforth Cup. They had just two minutes in which to access and deal with a previously unknown water incident which in this case featured seven drowning casualties.

The event was refereed by Crawley’s international referee John Stainer who will also be organising the Mixed Pairs in March.
