Worthing Junior Badminton Club’s players enjoyed success at the Mid-Sussex tournament in Haywards Heath recently.

The event was held over two weekends at the Dolphin Leisure Centre in Haywards Heath and Dewi Rice won all of his games to be crowned the under-ten boys’ singles champion.

After winning all of his group games, Dewi progressed to the knock-out stage and won the final 21-15.

There was also success for Henry Wong in the under-12 boys’ singles event. He defeated all four of his opponents in the group stage, before progressing through the knock-out stage and then winning the final 21-16.

Sam Lancashire finished runner-up in the under-14 boys’ singles. He won all of his group games and then three knock-out matches, before he lost the final 21-14.

Sam enjoyed success in the under-14 boys’ doubles, though, as he teamed up with fellow Worthing junior Toby Nisbet.

They won all of their group games and then enjoyed a 21-14 victory in the final.

In the under-12 boys’ doubles, Worthing junior Joel Butler teamed up with Cameron Matthews. The duo won all of their group games and reached the final, where they lost an exciting match 21-20.

Worthing took the top three places in the under-12 girls’ singles event. Azzurra Cartolano won the event, with Maizie Thompson the runner-up and Lily Wingrove third.

Azzurra also won the junior girls’ section in a tournament in Littlehampton, while Zachary Blake was the victor in the junior boys’ section.
