Silver went to Lizzie Kies, Stelios Pavlou and Farkhod Koziev, while bronze went to DJ Barth, Josh Brown and Peter Hughes.

Oren Somers-Baines came fifth in a very hard group, and Michael Roser and Greg Kies, two of the club’s red belts, gained invaluable experience.

TNJC came third in Sussex and were only two points away from second position, a great achievement for a small club.

Then at the southern area inter-counties, Sussex girls and boys’ teams won gold against rivals from Kent, Surrey and Hampshire. TNJC gold medallists from the Sussex trials were part of the Sussex teams.

Coach Tony Newton, third dan and former world masters champion, is proud that his club can achieve such good results with a small number of players.

TNJC players are of all levels, and those that choose to compete are doing so at both regional and national level.

Recent achievements include Jamie Holmes and Peter Hughes winning silver medals at the British Schools Championships in March and Kristina Pavlou winning gold at the north west championships and Sportif Internatinal in Edinburgh.

That followed her 12 gold medals during 2014 and a silver medal at the British championships – and being selected for the England judo squad.
