Jolyon delights at season’s first win

A hugely relieved Jolyon Palmer says a huge amount of pressure has been released by his stunning first GP2 win of the season in Hungary at the weekend.

The Southwater racer had a real fight at the Hungaroring for much of the race before eventually pulling clear to win by more than 15 seconds.

Afterwards the Carlin driver said: “This means so much. It’s my first podium of the year after being bumped off at Barcelona so I’m really pleased for myself and the team. It’s a great day for Carlin.

And he added: “It feels like it’s pressure off now I’ve got the first Feature Race win and hopefully we can build on this.

“We’ve had some bad luck in the weekends prior to this so I’m really happy and hopefully we can get some more wins during the rest of the season.”

Starting from seventh on the grid, Jolyon fought his way through the pack, and then had a real battle to overtake the front-runner.

He finally made a move stick on lap 28 and then quickly stretched out a lead and took the win which moved him up to seventh in the drivers’ championship with 64 points
