Harriers compete in long races before the April marathons

A fine weekend of weather met the Harriers on their travels around Sussex and Surrey with some completing final long races before the April Brighton and London marathons.

Three Harriers where part of the line up at the flat Surrey Spitfire 20 miler at Dunsfold Aerodrome. 767 runners headed out and Harrier Carl Bicknell was pleased to have completed in 2.48:33, Michael Essex ran 2.57:40 and Errol Curling finished in 3.09:27.

An undulating 21mile challenge in the lanes around Cranleigh for Hoss Davies 4.12:12. Hoss, 65, is running the 26.2 miles at the London Marathon for the first time raising significant money for the Variety Club at the event.

Part of the West Sussex Fun run league the ‘Foxes Five’, in Shoreham 14 seniors Harriers took part. But Junior Harrier Matt Holbrook stole the show taking a fantastic first place 5.34 for the 1 mile junior race who led from start to finish. In the seniors race, 16th place with 30.45 was Jon Kennedy, 23rd 31.05 for Jack Chivers, 35th Cliff 31.56, 54th 33.49 Julian Boyer, 57th 36.37 Mark Armitage, 38.15 Mark Sykes, 41.36 Steve Horn, 42.25 Adigail Redd, 42.51 Rupert Purchase, 43.54 Linda Tullet, Michelle Pearce with 45.11, Richard Bates finished in 48.04, 48.24 for Irene Parsley, a 49.39 for Michelle Holdstock. The run in sunny a Shoreham was held by the Southwick Strollers, and runners enjoyed the fine weather heading along pleasant route by the River Adur.

Over at Saturday morning Clair Parkrun, 111 runners completed the 5k run. 1st place was Harrier Russ Mullen 17.45 course PB. The Harriers put in a great a show as 2nd was Paul Tomlinson 17.53 PB, 3rd place 18.10 Tom Mullen. 4th Paul Cousins 18.17 for course PB too. Andy Guy was 5th 18.46 PB, 7th Steve Dallman 19.30 10th Simeon Cousins 20.25 PB , 11th was first lady 20.43 PB and 23rd 22.12 was Mark Gillies also for a course PB.
