Mel wins Mannings Heath medal with stylish recovery

A brilliant run of seven pars and a birdie helped Mel Coventry continue her fine form at Mannings Heath.

Playing off a ten handicap, Coventry used up eight shots of her allowance in the first eight holes, but played the next eight in one under par on her way to winning the Silver Division of the ladies’ first medal competition of the year on the Waterfall course.

Not even an anti-climactic eight on the last could prevent the win, as she signed for a nett 76,

Nearest challenger Lyn Turner was three shots behind, with Jen Cole a shot further back.

In the battle for Bronze honours, the three leaders carded nett 83s but Margaret Edwards, off 21, had the steadiest back nine to pip Anna Sowerby and Meriel Jolley on countback.
