The division four south game in Petworth Park was played on the club’s old second pitch which had not been played on for some years.

With the help of the sportsfield groundsman and the team managers, the pitch was playable despite the wet weather which caused the cancellation of many local games - including every other fixture in all divisions of the West Sussex League.

Petworth took a 3-0 lead at half-time. Fernhurst pulled a goal back early in the second half but despite coming close to scoring on a number of occasions could not reduce the deficit.

In the closing stages both sides tired on the heavy pitch.

The win for Petworth has given them a confidence boost and is a big step towards gaining enough points to keep them in division four south for next season.
