Lancers went top of the Southern Combination League on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Arundel, and are also in the semi-finals of the Sussex RUR Cup and quarter-finals of the Peter Bentley Cup, with their last eight tie at Hailsham postponed owing to a waterlogged pitch on Tuesday.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the campaign, Bailey said: “We’re under no pressure for the rest of the season.

“Teams who have come down from the Ryman League are perhaps under pressure to be up there come the end of the season.

“We’ve got a good squad, with strength in depth, and we’re just looking to finish higher than our eighth place last season. If we finish in the top two, that would be absolutely brilliant and then there will be a decision to make about the Ryman League.

“I’ve set the players a points target that I want us to reach and I told them that midway through the season.

“At the moment, we’re on course to get it quicker than I thought. We’re also still in two cups and if we could get to two finals, that would be absolutely brilliant.”
