Lancing United Football Club will go up into the Southern Combination League on the back of their best-ever season.
The club won the West Sussex League title and also lifted the Malcolm Simmonds Cup for the club’s first-ever silverware this season.
United have progressed on and off the pitch in recent years, with a striving youth section and a new clubhouse and changing rooms in place at their Croshaw Rec home.
James Baker and Derren Woods took over as joint managers last summer and Baker said: “It’s been great to win the title for the likes of Ron George, Tony Poynter, Glenn Souter and everyone on the committee for all their hard work.
“We knew we’d put together a strong squad and a lot of the team have played in the County League in the past. Derren and I have worked well together, it’s been good cop, bad cop at times but he played at a very good level and has been involved with Lancing and I’ve been with Storrington, so we’ve had experience in the County League before.
“This is good reward for the players for all the hard work they’ve put in. We tended to play better against the better sides this season and we’ll look forward to going up into the Southern Combination League now.”
On aims in the SCFL, Baker said: “With the lads we have got, we’ll be looking to be challenging in the top half and just try to improve as a team. We’d like to keep all of the players and, if we can, add three to four new signings.”
United won the title with 12 wins from their 18 league games, with just one defeat. They finished their season with a 4-1 win against West Chiltington on Saturday when Mark O’Regan and Dan Measom both scored twice.
