Despite a spirited late fight back Bridges slipped back into the relegation slots as other results didn’t go their way folowing a 2-1 defeat at home by Hastings Utd.
Both sides missed golden opportunities in the opening minutes, a mix-up in the Hastings defence giving Tony Garrod a chance after only three minutes, but his final shot was comfortably held by Josh Pelling.
At the other end Trevor McCreadie spurned two simple chances, and then Allan Tait threaded the perfect ball through to an unmarked Matt Daniel, who contrived to scoop the ball over the bar.
Martin Grant held onto a firm free-kick from Sam Adams, and the inevitable opening goal arrived in the 17th minute when Bridges failed to clear and the ball fell nicely for Tom Vickers to drive past a helpless Grant.
Lee Carney and Garrod both came close to levelling, but the final action of the first half saw Grant make a fine save to deny Vickers.
Bridges came out for the second half looking upbeat and positive, but they suffered a setback within two minutes when a long ball caught them napping and Kenny Pogue finished in style.
A couple of substitutions and a few positional changes, most notably pushing Williams Peauroux back into his favoured midfield spot, gave Bridges more impetus, but Grant was still needed as he held onto a swerving effort from Adams and made a terrific block to deny Pogue.
After 69 minutes Bridges looked to be firmly back into contention though when Elliott Romain’s inviting low cross was turned into his own goal by Adams as Garrod put him under pressure.
With Peauroux now pulling all the strings in midfield and Tait and Romain giving plenty for the Hastings defence to think about, an equaliser looked on the cards, but Bridges’ defence also had to be alert and both Charlie Cooke and Charlie Leach gave as good as they got.
Pogue might have done better with a header when he met Jordan Woodley’s free-kick, while Grant made a great late tip over from Vickers, but Bridges certainly couldn’t be faulted for effort.
