Although Callum Donaghey was forced to head a Tom Brunt drive off his line inside the first two minutes, this was a game that Bridges certainly deserved to win.
And the margin of victory would surely have been greater but for the excellence of Adam Molloy in the Sittingbourne goal.
Matt Whitehead’s shot was charged down and Godfrey drilled a delicious low drive just inside the near post.”Three Bridges reporter Alf Blackler
Following the previous week’s debacle at Ramsgate, this was as different as chalk from cheese with plenty of neat inter-passing and a lot of shots.
Sam MacVicar can count himself particularly unlucky not to get on the scoresheet as Molloy denied him on least four occasions, the best save being a tip-over as MacVicar met Ben Godfrey’s cross midway through the second half with a powerful header.
Godfrey and Tony Garrod both fired just wide, Godfrey hit over the bar from Steve Sargent’s give cross and then Garrod hit the crossbar with Matt Daniel firing the rebound wide.
But Daniel then headed off his own line as Sittingbourne showed that they were no mugs.
Garrod then forced Molloy to a good block before Bridges finally broke through after 34 minutes.

Miles Cornwell had a good chance to level as the first half closed.
A special mention to Alfie Jones, who took over assistant refereeing duties at half-time following a calf injury to referee Jim Paterson.
The second half began with Donaghey meeting Sargent’s free-kick with a header that was cleared off the line!
Kieran Thorp needed to tip a Harry Smith effort away on the hour, but within three minutes Bridges young substitute Ljubisa Palic rattled the crossbar. Chances came and went with MacVicar by now sick of the sight of Molloy, but the three points were well earned by the final whistle.
