Rocks held by Hendon... City’s fune run goes on

Sami El-Abd’s 72nd-minute goal canceled out an early strike by Finnbar Robins for the home side to end a run of two straight league defeats for the Rocks.

They’re now fifth with 38 points - just four points beghind leaders Dulwich. But the top NINE are separated by just five points.

Bognor’s next two matches are not league affairs - they go to Eastbourne Town in the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday and visit National League South side Maidstone in the first round of the FA Trophy next Saturday.

Striker Chike Kandi is eligible for both games after extending his loan from Championship high-flyers Brighton for another month.

In the Southern Combination, Miles Rutherford is really making his mark at Chichester City, whose 3-0 home win over Horsham YMCA came thanks to a Jimmy Wild double and a Dan Hegarty goal.

It was their sixth win in a row and took them up to eighth in the premier-division table.

Still above them, but not by far, are Pagham, who lost 4-0 at Horsham.

In division one, Midhurst went down 1-0 at home to Storrington, Selsey were 3-1 losers at home to Mile Oak, David Rough their scorer, and Sidlesham lost 4-1 at Ringmer despite an early John Phillips goal.

Bosham’s Sussex Intermediate Cup game against Bexhill under-21s was called off once again.

On the local rugby scene, Chichester slipped to a sixth straight defeat, going down 13-12 to Shelford in a home National three London south-east game.

In division one of the Hampshire League, Bognor hammered Sandown and Shanklin 56-18 to keep up their 100 per cent league record after eight games. They lead the table by nine points.
