Former Arsenal and England midfielder Paul Merson believes Albion captain Bruno is the perfect role model for any aspiring full-backs.

The 38-year-old shone for the Seagulls in Saturday's 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and was praised afterwards by Merson on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

Merson, who was capped 21 times by England and played for Arsenal, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Portsmouth during his career, feels Bruno plays the full-back role better than any player in the Premier League.

He said: “Bruno’s the oldest player in the league and he was playing against probably the quickest geezer (Adama Traore) who’s ever played in the Premier League, and he absolutely had him in his pocket.

“If you’re a kid growing up and you want to play full-back, go and watch Bruno play. He plays the full-back role better than any other player in the Premier League in my opinion.

"He might not be the best Premier League player but he plays the position better than anybody else.

“The positions he gets into and the way he dinks balls into the centre forward - you get other players who just whack it and say ‘you get on with it’.

“But Bruno dinks it into them and makes sure they’re always favourite to get the ball ahead of the centre-half. He’s absolutely outstanding and he set up (Glenn) Murray’s goal."

Merson also praised Albion's matchwinner Glenn Murray and said if the striker was playing for Wolves, the visitors would have won the game: "He didn't do loads in the game but what a goal.

"You'll watch the goal and think it's nothing special but it was a good goal. It's a great finish.

"He held the ball up, worked his socks off like he does every week and that was the difference.

"Wolves had all the play and they made (Mathew) Ryan make some good saves. But I think if Murray plays for Wolves, they win."
