Former Chelsea and Sunderland defender joins Brighton

Defender Victoria Williams has joined Brighton on a one-year deal after her contract with Sunderland ended.

The 28-year-old, who played for Chelsea and Doncaster Rovers Belles before Sunderland, arrives on a free transfer. She has been capped for England at youth team level and up to under-23s.

Albion Women’s first-team manager Hope Powell said: “We are delighted to welcome Victoria to the club.

“She is someone with plenty of experience, having played at the top level for Chelsea, and will add to our defensive options.

“Her versatility will also prove to be very useful, as she can play anywhere across the back line.

“I am very much looking forward to working with her this season.”
