Dan Simmonds netted five times as Wick & Barnham United Football Club saw off relegation rivals Hailsham Town on Tuesday.

Simmonds’ five goals, along with a strike from skipper Matt Noble, saw Wick romp to an emphatic 6-1 away win.

It was a key clash for Wick and victory saw them move ten points clear of third-from-bottom Hailsham, who have six games in hand.

Wick joint boss Richard Towers was delighted with the success and said: “Every single one of my players was exceptional on the night and we fully deserved the win.

“We were great from the start and this gives us a nice ten-point cushion between us and the relegation zone now.”

Simmonds was on fire throughout the evening and he completed a 41-minute hat-trick to ensure Wick led 3-0 at the break.

Simmonds added a fourth on 57 minutes, before Noble made it 5-0 nine minutes later.

Simmonds netted his fifth on 82 minutes, before Danny Leach got a late consolation.

Wick host bottom-of-the-table St Francis on Saturday.
