Crawley based side Furngate went into the final as unbeaten league champions and took the lead to put themselves in the driving seat as the two sides went into the half-time break.

The second half saw Cosmos fight their back into the game and their persistence was rewarded midway through the half with Paddy Thorne drawing the sides level. The closely contested final could have gone either way but the winner was decided in the last minute of extra time by Cosmos’ man of the match Sonny Smyth.

Manager Lee Berry said afterwards: “It was exceptional team spirit that turned around the game for us and it was a great result against a very talented side. Once again we would all like to thank the Curry Inn, Haywards Heath for sponsoring our kit and for their continued support of the team.”

Cosmos have worked hard over the past two years to gain Charter Standard Club status through the Sussex FA and have currently over 450 players with boys and girls playing in age groups from Under 6 to Under 16s.

Club Secretary Rachel Southwell added “Due to losing a few players through the season to rugby and other activities, we are looking to recruit for the Under 14s for the 2016/17 season (school year 9). Anybody interested please contact me at [email protected]
