Crawley's Matt Harrold wants to keep good home form going against Cambridge

The Crawley Town striker says players enjoy there, while visiting teams do not.

Reds are currentlly 14th in the table, having won six out of their last seven home matches.

They are just five points behind Cambridge in 11th, who have been impressive lately on their tra vels.

The U’s have won four of their last five away matches which included wins against leaders Plymouth, Dagenham & Redbridge, Morecambe and Yeovil.

He said: “We’ve made the home ground a bit of a fortress, where we have a winning mentality and we are quite strong and score goals at the right times.

“We have a record you can’t really argue with. It has been very good.

“We could have probably have seen seen the games out a bit easier and we like to keep the crowd interested until the final whistle!

“We are a bit disppointed with the last two results.

“Wycombe was a very even game where a mistake has changed the outcome and then obviously they scored late. That was a game we could easily have got something out of.

“Portsmouth was one of those games where you hold your hands up and say the better team won.

“We conceded at a bad time and once you concede in the first 20 minutes to them at home you are going to struggle.

“We are probably comfortable with the surroundings, we have a good way of playing at home and other teams coming here don’t like it as much.

“You will probably find looking around the grounds, teams’ home results are better than away.

“I think the away results could come again, with a little luck and by cutting the mistakes out.

“You come in to the ground and feel positive and have memories of winning games before.

“That reinforces the good feelings around the players and the fans.

“It is nice to be at home but we know we cannot take our foot off it home as it can easily stop because we come against good teams, so we have to be careful.”

Harrold admitted he did not enjoy his spell on loan at Cambridge last season where he only made six appearances in a three-month spell, scoring one goal and being on the winning side just once.

He does not think his knowleddge of the club will be that helpful after they had a big turnaround of players under manager Richard Money.

Former Notts County boss Shaun Derry replaced in November after Money was sacked.

He said: “I went there not fit and they were really low on confidence.

“It was a really hard spell but started to feel good by the end when I scored a goal and then wasn’t picked!

“It is a regret as I look to do well wherever I go and I was disappointed I didn’t do well there.

“When I went there the whole club it was very low in confidence.

“In the summer they had a new manager (Joe Dunne) who made lot of changes and only two players stayed from the season before.

“They are one of the favourites to go up, they have a new manager (Shaun Derry) and with the budget they are on, they should do well.

“I have played a long time and I know most of the players at this level and will have a mental note of how we did against them last time.”
