Charker said: “I asked the boys before the game to give a good account of themselves, I couldn’t have asked for more of them today, you know 6-2 looks bad, but to be fair they did really well tonight.

“We took a couple of good chances, but for me and I have said this to the boys recently we are not ruthless enough in front of goal, we had a few chances to make the score line a little bit closer, but at the end of the day I am still over the moon with how the boys have done tonight.”

Although, Crawley was the home team for the fixture the game was played at local non-league club Oakwood and not at the checkatrade.com stadium, which left Charker and his side feeling disappointed.

He said: “It goes without saying that we would have wanted to have played there, we were a bit disappointed when they said the game would be played here, but it has been a fantastic experience for not only the boys, but for everyone involved in the football club.

“John Gregory is such a top guy, he came up to me at the end and said how well we played and I really appreciate that. It was really nice for him to say it and they have been good to us from the minute we turned up here and showed us the respect that we deserved.”
