Second winger joins Reds on loan

Crawley Town have completed the signing of a second winger on loan before today’s deadline, with Jeffrey Monakana joining from Brighton.

The 20-year-old will be with Reds for a month and is in the squad for Saturday’s trip to one of his former clubs, Preston.

Monakana came through the youth system at Arsenal before joining Preston in 2012. He played 47 times for the Deepdale club, scoring six goals, before joining Colchester on loan at the start of this season.

He made 11 appearances for the U’s prior to joining Brighton in a permanent 18-month contract in January where he has been a regular in their under-21 development team. Monakana has already played against Reds three times for his former clubs.

Crawley manager John Gregory said: “Jeffrey is highly rated by Brighton and he has plenty of experience of League One already.

“He’s strong, quick and can deliver a good ball from wide areas and I’m really hoping he can flourish with us over the next month. With eight games during that time he will certainly get the opportunity to impress.”

Monakana added: “I have played against Crawley three times and never been on the winning side so hopefully that will change now I’m here.

“Hopefully I can bring something to the team. I like to take on defenders and get the ball into the box and hopefully score a few goals as well. I’m looking forward to the next month.”
