John Gregory to stay at Crawley Town

On Saturday he threatened to quit his post after only managing to draw 1-1 against second to bottom Crewe.

But he now feels recovered from being ‘totally depressed’, he told journalists at a press conference at the Checkatrade.com Stadium this morning.

Gregory said: “I had a bit of a strop after the match. I think it’s because I care so much, I so want us to be successful.

“On Saturday with no disrespect to Crewe we absolutely dominated the second 45 minutes and only got a point out of it.

“I was scratching my head as to why we played so poorly in the first half. There were so many uncharacteristic errors from my players which I found extremely frustrating.

“I was very down after the game.

“I went away on Sunday and spoke to one or two people and on Monday morning I was a lot better and picked myself up as you do and came into work and now as you see from my persona I have a smile on my face.

“We are in 15th position in the league and there are nine teams below us who would gladly swop places with us. You try to get things into perspective.

“I strive for perfection, for excellence and I’ve taken a long hard look at myself.

“It could be me perhaps because of my background because I have played and coached with better players, that I am setting the standard too high.

“I’ve got enough intelligence to appreciate I’m a League One manager and need to think like a League One manager and behave like a League One manager “I’ve got enough about me not to expect too much - I don’t expect my players to play like Premier League players but I do expect them to want to play like Premier League players and for me to get them up into the Championship.

“We are fine, we’ve worked very hard on the training gorund, we’re in good shape and very excited about the FA Cup this weekend.”
