A late strike from Akheem Rose was enough for the home side to claim all three points, but Cioffi thought his side did enough to get at least a point.

He told the club's website: "I am upset. Against Gillingham, a good performance we lost in the Checkatrade Trophy. We want to go through and we lost.

"Today, a good performance but again we lost. So we have to think it’s probably not enough to give 110 per cent we have to give 120 per cent on the pitch, everyone, the players and the staff.

"Yes we looked the better side but that is something that does not make sense in football because the game is two halves. In the second half we deserved to draw.

"But we lost, what do we have to do? We break and then start another week."

He said: "We had a good mentality and good balance. We had the chance to score and I am confident we will soon find the way to score.

"There were a lot of positives like there were against Gillingham and the previous match against Portsmouth.

"We have to understand what we did wrong. Two minutes cost us that match.

"Panutche had a good game, Josh Payne had a good game the back four had a good game but we lost. Sometimes it’s better to have a bad game and bring back home the points.

"I need an hour to calm down because I am really upset. Not about the performance but about the result.

"Our life comes down to results. I have to calm down then think about Tuesday."
