Crawley Down Gatwick nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in a seven-goal thriller that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the bitter end.

Newboys Trevor McCreadie and Dapo Kayode combined for the latter to open the scoring.

For the rest of the half it was pretty even, with Carlton Price and Dan Moody both going close for the visitors.

The second half produced six more goals with McCreadie opening his account for his new club on 52 minutes.

Skipper Steve Robinson then headed home from a corner in the 61st minute to go 3-0 up.

They were then shocked on 65 when Chipstead’s Dan Moody chipped in a David Beckham type shot from just over the halfway line.

The visitors sensed it was game on, and on 67 minutes substitute Trevor Pink broke through a now nervous Anvil defence to record Chipstead’s second goal.

Jamie Thurgood headed home a Moody corner to draw level at 3-3.

Chipstead looked the more likely winners, but three minutes before the end Anvil substitute Ash Robinson headed home a Charlie Holness cross to settle the contest and at the same time settle the nerves of the home faithful.
