Josh Wright, Nick Tsaroulla and Tarryn Allarakhia came into the starting line-up in place of David Sesay, Jordan Maguire-Drew and James Tilley following Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Port Vale.

Reds played in a midfield diamond with Wright the most defensive and Allarakhia playing in behind the two strikers. Reds were three points ahead of Carlisle going into the game, with the Cumbrians having a game in hand.

And the unfortunate first goal came after 18 minutes and it could not have been more unlucky for the Reds and goalkeeper Glenn Morris. Joe Riley’s tame effort took a major bump off the rough of the turf.

The club tweeted: "Nothing Morris could have done with that one. Such a rubbish goal to concede after some good football."

The lead was doubled on 33 minutes when Omari Patrick went unchallenged before firing into the top corner from 30 yards.

Reds won a free kick early in the second half but Jack Powell's effort flew inches over.

Yems' side started to dominant in the early parts of the second-half and shared more possession but were unable to create anything clear-cut.

But the home side did have a chance - but Glenn Morris saved the day. Offrande Zanzala had his headed effort saved from point-blank range before the follow-up was somehow met by the Reds keeper who had no time to react.

Sam Matthews came on for Powell and the Reds looked much sharper going forward with the likes of Allarakhia and Matthews making runs between the lines.

But the Reds could not find that elusive goal and the game ended 2-0.
