Beeding returned to Division 2 of the Southern Combination League for the start of this season and currently sit top of the pile after 18 matches.

Baldock’s side lead the way by two points from Roffey and Billingshurst but both have three games in hand.

Cowfold and Rottingdean Village, fourth and fifth respectively, trail by three points and have four games in hand.

Baldock has been more than impressed with his side on their return to Sussex county football and said: “We set a target of finishing in the top half at the start of the season.

“The main aim for us was to stay in this league and, with the start we have had, it looks as though we have managed that with 39 points.

“For us to be top after 18 matches is a great effort and the players deserve huge credit.”

There was disappointment for Beeding as their top-of-the-table clash with second-placed Roffey was postponed owing to a waterlogged pitch on Saturday.

Baldock was frustrated to see it called off but felt their was nothing the club could do.

He added: “It would have been good to face Roffey on Saturday.

“We are just coming back into form after losing against Ferring and won our previous two games.

“But we will meet Roffey later in the season and we will be ready for that test.”

Baldock believes that January will give him a good gauge of how far his team can go and said: “I think these next few matches will be important for us.

“If we can take ten points from our next four games this month, hopefully we could push on for the top five.”

Beeding return to action, weather permitting, on Saturday with a trip to Montpelier Villa.
