THE harsh reality of every side able to beat each other in the Championship unfortunately snared Brighton at the weekend with Chris Hughton's side turned over 1-0 by Wolves at the Amex.

The defeats sees the Seagulls’ extend their winless run to five league games and BetVictor have eased them to 25/1 (from 11/4 prior to the 2-2 draw with Derby) to be crowned champions and 3/1 (from 4/6) to be playing Premier League football next term.

Middlesbrough are now odds-on favourites for the Championship title and have been cut to 4/9 market leaders with BetVictor after beating nearest rivals Derby 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

The win lifts Aitor Karanka’s side four points clear of the Rams, with a game in hand, and they will take some pegging-back in their quest for top-flight football. Boro are now as short as 1/12 (from 2/7) with BetVictor to achieve promotion after coming out on top of the weekend’s massive six-pointer at the top-of-the table and surely now certainties barring accident to make up for last season’s hiccup and be dining at English football’s top tier once again next term.

The visitors lost little in defeat however, with the Rams respected as the 11/4 second favourites for the title and most likely team to stop Boro’s Championship bid.

Paul Clement’s side went down to late goals from Albert Adomah and George Friend but prior to that were more than a match for Boro and similarly remain odds-on 1/3 to join them in the Premier League next season.

Providing the pair go up as expected, presumably via the two automatic promotion places, then it would leave Seagulls fans to once again deal with the prospect of play-off football.

Brighton need to turn their form around prior to that but have the perfect opportunity when travelling to promotion rivals Hull in an all-Championship third round tie in the FA Cup on Saturday; the hosts even money favourites, Brighton 16/5 and the draw 11/5.
