George Garton, Phil Salt and Stuart Whittingham have all signed Junior Professional deals for the first time, whilst Fynn Hudson-Prentice has extended his contract after 2015 was his first year on the professional staff.

18 year-old Garton is a left-arm seamer and the Brighton-born starlet has progressed through the Sussex’s Youth and Academy ranks. He featured for England Under-19’s during the summer against the touring Australians, and will spend some of this winter on the Potential England Performance Programme (PEPP) in South Africa, along with fellow Sussex paceman Matt Hobden.

Top-order batsman Salt has scored heavily for the Second Eleven and Development XI over the past two seasons, and the 19 year-old made his first-team debut this season for Sussex, opening the batting in the Royal London One-Day Cup against Essex in August. Salt also plays for Brighton & Hove CC in the Sussex Premier League.

21 year-old Whittingham is another seamer to have come up through the ranks in Sussex, and made his first-class bow at the beginning of the 2015 season for Loughborough MCCU as they faced Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl. He also has experience with Scotland’s Under-19 side having been in the squad for last year’s World Cup.

Hudson-Prentice will be spending his second season on the professional staff in 2016. The 19 year-old all-rounder, born in Haywards Heath, made his first-class debut in Sussex’s LV=County Championship match with Hampshire at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground in June, and will spend much of this winter playing cricket in Australia.

Sussex’s Head Coach Mark Davis said, “It’s exciting times for these four youngsters. This opportunity gives them a real chance to make a mark next summer and earn full contracts to really start to forge long and successful careers.”
