And the winners will take on the winners of Group A6 - which will be one of Crawley, Ifield and Crawley Eagles - on September 5.

The winner of that match will take on the winner in another play-off game between Group A7 and A8 winners on September 12.

Overton said: “We should now fancy our chances of qualifying for the play offs in top spot. But we know there is still a job to do at home to Littlehampton next week, a side we know very little about having not come up against them for so long.”

This is Overton’s first season as captain.

He said: ““It has been a pleasure to captain such a good side this season and the additions to the squad have made a huge difference, there is a great feeling and team spirit within the squad. The exciting thing is that we know we can be even better than what we’re showing at the moment.

“There was always going to be a chance that we wouldn’t get any Cricket in this season. Credit must go to the Sussex League for creating a competitive competition with such limited time available. we are enjoying every minute of being out there and we don’t want the season to end.”

On Saturday, Slinfold posted 258-8 from their 40 overs thanks to contributions from Guy Thorne (49), Daniel Graycon (60 from 46 balls) and Overton himself (31).

In reply, Mubbasar Hussain (3-21), James Parker (2-11) and Thorne (2-19) all bowled well as Henfield collapsed to 132 all out.

Overton said: "After being put into bat by Henfield when there had been rain around, we managed to get off to a very solid start.

"This was in large thanks to a commanding knock by Guy Thorne with a little help from myself. This gave a platform for the guys coming in at the end to be more aggressive and take us to a very good total of 258.

"Daniel Graycon batted superbly at the end of the innings and he’s hitting the ball extremely well at the moment. His knock certainly gave us momentum going into the bowling innings.

"In Henfields reply we managed to pick up regular wickets which meant they were always going to struggle to score the runs required. James Parker picked up the wickets of both openers in the same over and then Mo Hussain and Guy Thorne controlled the overs after that to get the job done."
