Construction of the £1.8m cricket centre in the grounds of Brighton Aldridge Community Academy began last month and is due to be completed in spring 2016.

From then, Portslade, whose current ground at Benfield Valley cannot be brought up to the standard required to compete in the Sussex League Premier League, will play their home first and second games at the centre, which will also become the club’s training base.

The centre will also be home to the Aldridge Cricket Academy, a partnership between Brighton and Portslade Aldridge Community Academies and the Sussex Cricket Board, supported by Sussex County Cricket Club.

Portslade CC’s Andy Glover said: “The indoor school will provide state-of-the-art training facilities for the whole club, which will support the five-year development plan that we have in place.

“The colts section is key to the progression of the club and has underpinned the success we have witnessed over the past four years, with 90 per cent of the 1st XI squad being made up of players that came through the colts section.”
