Lindfield in promising position but fail to register first August Cup win

Batting first the visitors racked up a decent 258 for 7 off their allotted 40 overs thanks mainly to a well-made 75 from opener Michael Dawes. Supported by Max and Sam Wheatley (35 apiece) the hosts' bowlers suffered until the introduction of Thanvi Choudhury (4 for 46) who managed to stem the tide. Unfortunately, Lindfield's batsmen couldn't take advantage of the position as the top order struggled to maintain a healthy strike rate.

With wickets falling regularly, it was down to the middle order to try to inject some momentum into the innings. Tom Hinley (32 from 24 balls) and Henry Moorat (46 not out of 42 balls) tried to bring parity but when the rains came after 32 overs, Lindfield found themselves at 191 for 5, still 17 runs short of the requirement outlined by the league's algorithm used for shortened games.

Scaynes Hill CC 1st XI v Lindfield CC 2nd XI - Lindfield's second string beat Scaynes Hill in a high scoring affair which saw the visitors win with 4 balls to spare. Batting first, the hosts got off to a terrible start as Ross Pedley (4 for 28) ripped through the top order, with only Nick Wright (61) holding the innings together. With the visitors well on top, Robert Deane batting at number 9, turned the tide with a well-made 54 which saw Scaynes Hill reach 205. Asha Hinley finished with 3 for 21.

In reply, Lindfield got off to a good start with Rob Minter (43) Peter Vinall (27) and Alex Owen (22) making inroads. However, a flurry of wickets caused issues in the chase and it was down to Gareth Court (27 not out) and veteran Steve Pearce (39 not out) to see the visitors over the line in the last over.

Lindfield CC 4th XI v Keymer & Hassocks CC 3rd XI - Unbeaten Lindfield went top of their league with a dominant win over Keymer & Hassocks at Hickmans Lane. Peter Booth continued his good form with 3 for 19 which restricted the visitors to 113 all out. Jason Roberts top scored with 22 whilst Chris Maynard chipped in with 3 for 14 and Jack Pierpoint 2 for 30.

In response, Lindfield were never in danger and got over the line in just the 11th over. Toby Colvin hit an unbeaten 58.
