Jofra Archer on... whether he's fit for England, getting Zak Crawley out and Ollie Robinson's Test hopes

Jofra Archer returned to county championship action with Sussex - and did enough to suggest he is not far off a return to the England bubble.

In his first championship match since 2018, Archer took two for 29 as Kent were bowled out for 145 on day one at Hove. His England teammate Zak Crawley was one of his victims.

Afterwards he chatted about his Hove return, the England hopes of his fellow Sussex paceman Ollie Robinson and his return to fitness after elbow and finger injuries.

Archer said: "It’s great to play again with [Sussex] lads who I’ve played with nearly all of my career.

"I bowl to Zak Crawley in the [England] nets and I have done that quite a bit. Obviously, you’re never out in the nets so it was good to get him out here, with umpires.

"Hopefully Ollie Robinson will get his [England] chance this summer. We all know what he can do, he’s a talented bowler and his stats prove that.

"My fitness is fine, I thought I bowled okay. I played in the second team last week and it’s good to get some confidence and I felt fine. I bowled in short spells for protection in case we had a long day but it was overcast, which helped a bit. There was a bit of management, but it all worked out.

"With the [elbow] injury I have tried not to get too frustrated. If I’m fit, I guess I will play in the Test series and I feel alright. Ideally, I would have another game next week but we’re off and then we play Northamptonshire.

"I don’t know what the plan is but I’d be happy to play again before the Test series. I’d be happy to go into the bubble again."

Sussex fans will be wondering if they'll see Archer and Robinson open the bowling for England at some point this summer - maybe even on the first morning of the summer's first Test, which is just a couple of weeks away.
