Former Horsham overseas Matt Henry has made his Test debut for New Zealand against England at Lord’s today.

The 23-year-old right-arm fast-medium bowler has made the Kiwi’s test side for the first time and has already bowled out Ian Bell this morning.

Henry played at Horsham in the 2011 season, having already made four First Class appearances, and, as a fresh-faced 19-year-old, he scored an unbeaten 99 and took two wickets on his debut in the Sussex League Premier Division to proceed a fine season.

The Canterbury speedster enjoyed a memorable one-day debut in January 2014, snaring 4-38 to cap New Zealand’s series win over India.

He was then snapped up by Chennai in the 2014 Indian T20 League auctions, before making his Twenty20 New Zealand debut last December.

Speaking back in 2011 after his Horsham debut, he said: “I see myself as a bowling all rounder, but I’m trying to advance my game and become a better batsman.

“Everyone has been really welcoming and helpful. Hopefully I can do well for the club and do what they want me to do.

“Horsham is a fantastic club with great facilities, playing here is important for my development.”

Despite not being selected in the final squad for 2015 Cricket World Cup, the Christchurch-born all-rounder was selected as a replacement in the semi-final match against South Africa and was also a part of the team in the final against Australia.
