Champions Roffey toast the title with final-day victory at home

Champions Roffey toasted their Premier Division title at their home ground in style on Saturday.

Having clinched their first-ever Sussex League crown in a dramatic showdown at reigning champions Preston Nomads last week, Roffey made a victorious homecoming at the weekend.

And they rounded off their historic season with 77-run victory over Cuckfield.

Roffey captain Josh Fleming said: “The wicket was difficult on Saturday and Cuckfield bowled pretty well. Rohit played nicely and we were going very well until a collapse. Credit to them for bowling well in helpful conditions.

“Theo Rivers also played well in a good opening partnership with Rohit.

“Cuckfield were going well in reply as our seamers didn’t quite get it right but we always knew that it was difficult to bat and a couple of quick wickets could cause a collapse.

“Dan Smith and Rohit made it difficult on a turning track and the pressure built up on Cuckfield causing them to lose wickets and collapse.

“It helped us that their overseas player got injured in the field and couldn’t bat.

“Rohit has been a key player for us this season along with 3 or 4 other guys that have performed really well (Kuldeep, Mike Norris and Matt Davies)

“Everyone has chipped in over the course of the season and contributed to winning games that led to us winning the league.”
