1st XI

Having won the toss and asked visitors Middleton to bat first, the decision seemed to be an excellent one as wickets tumbled. Scoring was slow as Jake Wilson and Jethro Menzies bowled tightly.

Openers Will Burrows and William Affleck added 23 for the first wicket when Burrows was caught off the bowling of Menzies for 15. Affleck batted on as wickets fell the other end and when he was caught by Sam Palser for 33, off the bowling of Jake Wilson, Middleton were 71-7. Two more wickets fell and by this time Middleton were 87-9 and not looking to score three figures. However Craig Fowle and number 11 Tommy Davies had other ideas as they set about the Ansty bowling. An exceptional partnership of 75 ensued that was finally ended with Davies being caught by Stephen Rusling for 46 with Fowle on 41no. For the home side Jethro Menzies took 7-42 and Wilson 2-60.

The second wicket fell at 42 with Lucas Barker looking in good form. With the score at 8 however Barker fell for 34. Scores of 18 and 19 by Jethro Menzies and Leo Anderson respectively pushed the score to 103-6 but Ansty slid to 117 all out and their first defeat of the season.

2nd XI

The 2nd XI travelled to Hellingly but found the home side in great form. Winning the toss Ansty skipper Tom Hadfield invited Hellingly to bat first and they were soon down two wickets without a run on the board. Rose finished with 55 and Rob Preston 28.

Ansty’s reply became one to forget as only two batsmen attained double figures, George Martin 16 and Jake Brooks 13. Joe Hook was the tormentor taking 7-25 in 11.1 overs as Ansty capitulated at 55 all out.
