Crathern, who set a new record of 18.2 metres in Worthing in September, broke the record again with a distance of 19.8 metres at Botany Bay in North Kent.

It proved to be perfect conditions for the Worthing man as winds reached 45 knots from a northerly direction.

Crathern’s newest record also sees him move into the top ten in the world for height distance.

His performance of 19.8 metres sees him occupy seventh spot and just 40cm off third place.

The leader is Phil Morstad, who sits in top spot with his 21.4 metre jump.

Crathern was delighted to break his own record and said: “I have always felt the biggest jump I will do will be recorded in my hometown of Worthing but at the weekend, North Kent provided the perfect conditions to up my current record.

“I took my eight-metre kite and spent 40 minutes on the water.

“I still feel I have not had the day I dream of yet. I want 50 knots and the biggest tides of the year at Worthing and a westerly wind direction, so I can use the waves to jump.

“With this combination, I am sure I can be the first guy to record a 25-metre jump.”
