Burgess Hill Runners take on The Green Belt Relay

The Green Belt Relay dominated the Burgess Hill Runners calendar this weekend.

A 22 stage relay around 220 miles of the London Green Belt over two days. Burgess Hill Runners took two teams this year, comprised of Steve Bird, Mark Craigs, Nick Dawson, Philippe Ecaille, Lee Crow, John Palmer, Jon Boxall, Andy Sayers, Jonathan Lelliot, Joe Carey, Steph Harding, Karen Harvey, Linda Russell, Catherine Kempton, Jason Wadey, Neil Dawson, Gary Foley, Helen Pratt, Paul Russell, Kevin Walker, Steve Gray and Kim Gow. Team captains Neil Dawson and Jay Wadey were proud to accept the award for ‘Most Supportive Club’ on behalf of their respective teams, something the club are often noticed for.

The relay wasn’t the only big race this weekend. Four BHR took part in the Arun River Marathon. Darren Chilcott was the first Burgess Hill Runner to finish, with a fantastic time of 4:32:59. Jan Lavis finished second female as she continued to apply her distance running expertise with some amazing achievements, her time was 4:36:11. Husband and wife runners, Trevor and Sally Symes ran together and completed the course in 5:57:41.

Meanwhile, a couple of local 10k races hosted members of the ‘blue army’. Stuart Condie was the only club member at the Horsham 10k and clocked up a nippy 44:54, whilst Marie Carey led the club home at the Bognor Prom 10k with a time of 55:23, followed by Gill Berglund (55:18), John Carey (58:18), Dave Oldfield (1:01:11) and Kjell Berglund (1:01:49).
