The girls were extremely pleased making two out of the three age group finals. Both teams had very stiff opposition in Bede’s and Hurst respectively, both reaching National Finals in different competitions.

However, the girls put up a terrific fight with the U13 team battling hard all over the pitch to take the lead in the first half through Annie Harris. The girls defended gallantly at the start of the second half but could not sustain the Bede’s pressure. Eventually they scored to draw level at 1-1 and the match could have gone either way at the end. The match stayed at 1-1 which resulted in penalty flicks. Unfortunately the girls went down, but should be proud of their efforts, becoming the 2nd best team in Sussex.

After the disappointment of the U13s we now looked to the experience and expertise of the U18 team. It really was a high quality contest with the girls having a great deal of possession. It was end to end with some excellent midfield battles, along with some fine lead running from the forwards and the defence working tirelessly in what was a fantastic team effort.

They went down by two set pieces either side of half time, but the girls never gave up and showed tremendous strength of character to keep fighting to the end. Both teams should be proud of their efforts.

Head of PE Miss Suzy Clapp said “It was an excellent effort from both teams, showing great strength of character; they battled hard to the end. We are extremely proud of them all.”
