Chichester’s big night of boxing is back

The evening includes a four-course meal and a full programme of boxing and once again, the sparkle and glitz of Vegas will be provided by Haddows Electrical Ltd.

It promises to be fast and furious with a dazzling display of pugilistic punching from junior to senior, male and female, novice to elite boxers all on the bill.

The programme will include four junior contests, two youth and six senior contests, while it is hoped a special guest of honour from the boxing world will present the trophies.

There will be a vast array of raffle and auction prizes including the famous boxing wheelbarrow.

Tickets are £50 each on a table of ten and standing tickets are £15 and will include a burger with your ticket. Anyone wishing to sponsor a contest or purchase dinner tickets should contact Ray Richardson of Rotary on 01243 543701 or email [email protected]

Proceeds from the event will go to local charities and groups.

If anyone would like to sponsor the club in helping them find a permanent home don’t hesitate to call at the club premises on a Tuesday or Thursday between 6pm and 8pm at Swanfield Community Centre, Swanfield Drive, Chichester.

TWO juniors from Bognor Amateur Boxing Club were in action at Littlehampton Academy.

Yusif Shah, 15, boxed a boy from Littlehampton ABC and won on a majority decision. The contest was full of action with the Littlehampton boxer coming forward, but the straighter punches came from Shah, which gave him the winning decision.

Seventeen-year-old Hasnen Akhtar, also from the Bognor club, boxed very well and kept his boxing together with straight left and right punches, but the taller opponent from Waterside ABC receive the judge’s decision with a majority verdict.

Meanwhile, at the Holbrook Centre in Horsham, Shah had his second contest in a week, won yet again against Harvey Divall from Horsham ABC. For all three rounds Divall came forward but he was repeatedly caught by Shah’s hard and fast left jabs to win him a wide unanimous decision on all judges’ scorecards.

Bognor senior Hasen Akhtar, having his third contest in as many weeks, also won on an unanimous decision against Leon Lawlor again from Horsham ABC.

Giving away both height and reach, Akhtar took the contest to his opponent throughout, scoring well to head and body. During the third and last rounds the Horsham boy held on, repeatedly forcing the referee to stop the contest and warn him of the boxing foul.
