They began by winning the Crawley district schools title and went on to win the Sussex County title at every age group.

Trinity also excelled in the National Schools Competition where they became U19 and U15 National Champions, while finishing third in the U18, U17 & U14s, and 4th in the U13s.

This season saw six out of a possible seven (U13, U14, U15, U17, U18 & U19) semi-finals or further appearances, which is a feat that has not been achieved by any school in Sussex and possibly any school in the country.

The success has come as a direct result of them running a whole school basketball programme for this season.

Each year group has access to a before school early morning skills training session, a lunchtime training session and an after-school training session.

Some students enjoy double sessions due to playing multiple age groups.

Holy Trinity also run an elite academy programme for the sixth form.

Those in the academy chose to take 3 A-Levels or Level 3 BTEC’s alongside a basketball course.

The basketball course has the players under go strength and conditioning sessions, video analysis sessions and Basketball England Level 1 coaching, table officiating and refereeing qualifications, all timetabled around their chosen subjects.

In addition to this the team have breaktime shooting sessions, a morning skills session and two after-school team training sessions.

Head coach Karl Youngman said: ‘I’m really proud of all of the players that have competed in the basketball teams this year.

“Their success is a direct result of the hard work and commitment that the players have exhibited.

“I’m looking forward to defending our national title with the year 10s and in the future hope to compete for a few more.’

A large number of the Holy Trinity players also represent Crawley Cagers in the BasketballSUSSEX League.

Cagers have this season finished undefeated in the U14 league (2nd year in a row, 3 times in 4 years), finished undefeated in the U16 league (3rd year in row) and are on their way to winning the U18 league (2nd year in a row).

Holy Trinity/Cagers have also had two players selected for England Development Squads this season.

Georges Tchuako and Colin Luzinda were invited earlier in the year to the U15 and U14 squads respectively.
